As one of the first three designers at a large-scale company, I helped build a robust design system foundation using an 8pt grid and MUI, creating a scalable structure that kickstarted the design process at the company.

Challenge
As one of the first three designers hired at a company of 1400, the challenge was twofold. We not only had to build a robust design system from scratch but also educate business stakeholders and teams on the value of design.
Initially, many weren't familiar with design principles, so part of my role was advocating for the need for a cohesive design system. After gaining buy-in, we integrated MUI and customized components to meet both user needs and leadership’s vision, ensuring the system would be scalable across future projects.
Results
The design system incorporated a 12-column grid, 8pt scale, and design hygiene best practices, including auto-layouts to ensure scalability and consistency.
I prioritized accessibility with high contrast, clear iconography, help text, and screen reader support to create an inclusive user experience. The system also aligned with our newly launched brand, presenting a cohesive visual identity across all platforms.
This foundational work allowed the company to scale its products efficiently while maintaining usability and accessibility.
