Challenge

The redesign began with the Term product, followed by Critical Illness, and ended with the legacy Participating Whole Life product.

The existing quote system was outdated, requiring users to download old Microsoft software. My goal was to create an integrated digital quote system that automatically populated the application, eliminating the need for redundant data entry.

Results

Each product improved through feedback and iteration, with real-time tracking and user surveys guiding the process.

The new system reduced quoting time from 15 minutes to 3.

Adoption rates increased by 120%, as 100% of users now must engage with the quote process to proceed to the application. The integration improved efficiency, user satisfaction, and sales across all products.

Process

Research & Analysis: I conducted user interviews, surveys, and analyzed analytics to identify pain points and user needs for each product. I also reviewed competitor apps and industry trends to guide my design decisions. Feedback from each iteration informed the next product.

Information Architecture: I restructured the quoting process to prioritize speed, integration, and user-friendly navigation. Each product benefited from lessons learned in the previous iteration, improving information flow and efficiency.

Wireframing & Prototyping: Low-fidelity wireframes evolved through several feedback rounds into high-fidelity prototypes. Each product went through iterative design improvements based on testing, ultimately streamlining the quoting process.

Usability Testing: I conducted usability tests with diverse users to ensure the quoting process was intuitive and efficient. Feedback helped refine the designs, reducing friction points and speeding up the process.

Iterate & Handoff: I iterated on the designs based on feedback, refining them to meet user and business needs. Once the design was finalized, I ensured a smooth handoff to the development team, providing all necessary assets for implementation.

This cycle of research, prototyping, testing, and refinement improved each product, resulting in a faster, more efficient quoting system and a 120% increase in adoption.

Conclusion

This project has been a significant part of my work over the last 12 months, where I've grown both in my technical design skills, as well as communication skills with stakeholders and developers. Each product presented unique challenges, but through collaboration, I successfully designed and built the quote process for 3 out of 4 insurance applications.

While there’s still always room for improvement in a launched product, I recognize that owning such a crucial product, used daily by consumers, has been an exciting and rewarding experience. I’m continuing to develop my skills, advocate for users, and refine my UI expertise, thanks to the mentorship and support from my colleagues.
